Maia Jefferson
Ever since I was a young girl, I have possessed a love for sports. I grew up as a “Tomboy” playing football and basketball in my neighborhood with friends. Growing up I was never surrounded by girls my age, all of my closes friends were guys. While some would worry about their daughter going outside to play with boys every day, my parents knew that I was not in harm’s way. As a child I loved playing tackle football. Any chance I got to tackle one of my friends I was taking it. This love for sports only seemed to progress as I got older. Coincidentally I was never one for watching football, rather than playing it. As the entirety of my guy friends got older, I noticed they became more in tune with watching the game as well.
My love for the sports industry really blossomed in high school. I tried every sport once in high school, but soccer and track were the two that really stuck with me. In trying to be the best I can at my respective sport I would do research on nutrition and how to better my skill every day. It is safe to say that I was probably the only 17 year old in my high school who played very close attention to my diet and workout regimen. Not only did my love for sport blossom in high school, but also my love for nutrition as well. In trying to be the best athlete I can be I would try to fuel my body the best way I could. I set out to improve my sport performance and continued out of the pleasure in doing so. It has always amazed me how one could change their body so drastically just by strength training in co-ordinance with dieting. To me, it’s almost like your body is a blank canvas. To have the ability mold and sculpt my body to what I want, amazes and fascinates me. I am also very fascinated with healthy eating. Not only do I love to stay healthy, I love to eat healthy. It is common since that you “Are what you eat”. I live up to the motto every day. I also share a passion for cooking, so my love for nutrition I believe comes naturally. It was not long before family and friends began to ask me about “healthy” foods to eat and workout plans. Not only do I aver a love for sports/exercise and nutrition, but I also love to be around people. I consider myself to be a people person; therefor I love nothing more than to help people the best way I can Looking into my present studies here at TU, I plan to receive my bachelors in Sports and Rec management with a minor in exercise science. I do also plan to become ASCM certified personal trainer soon, as well as a become pursuant of my nutritional certification as well. This alone will allow me to management gym (or my own business) in addition to training and aiding people in the realm of sport and nutrition. I am looking to broaden my skill set to be able to conquer and acquire a lot of different skills. The world of fitness and sport is expanding so I’d like to be able to do more than just one specific task. I aspire to be able to train amateur or professional teams as well as clientele. |
