Week 7 Day 3 9/17/2015
Today in the Hanson center I actually got the opportunity to help someone on my own. As I was in the office, a fellow student has some questions about a certain Olympic lift. The student had explained to me that he used to do cross fit but had been out of it for a while. He was struggling to do a certain weight he had always done in the past. I advised him to go back down to maybe using a super light weight just to get the motion and technique back. He went down to a lighter weight and was able to practice doing the weight with more reps. The more he was able to practice the technique, the better he got at being comfortable enough to lift old weights again.

Week 7 Day 2 9/16/2015
After all o f the equipment finally got here to the university, It was my responsibility to help put it away. before i put it away i made sure that every item was again accounted for and marked off on the sheet for inventory. Once that was done i went through each item and marked it with the "TU STRENGTH" in sharpie. This is to prevent other teams , schools, or users of our facility from stealing it. Not only does it aid in the theft of materials, it also ensures that the people using the equipment know exactly where to return the them to once they are finished using them. Often time teams will need equipment for practices that is not readily available to them. They will ask to borrow from us and we have to make sure we keep track of whats going out, whats coming in, and be sure that it returns back to the Hanson Center.

Week 7 Day 1 9/15/2015
Today we received the first shipment of the new equipment. The equipment came via Maintenance. The maintenance people delivered us the heavy boxes because the Tiffin mail room could not simply just hold the equipment there for the entirety of the day. When we did receive our first part of the shipment, I did not just un-box it , and stack it amongst the other equipment. This equipment must first be checked off the list. After being checked off the list, I then made sure it was exactly what we ordered as far as color, size, and quantity. The first items to come in were the

There was expected to be a new shipment of equipment coming into the Hanson center soon. in anticipation for this shipment I had to carefully evaluate the shipping list. In order to make sure we got all of our equipment, we need to be sure we know exactly what we ordered. I was assigned to carefully examine each item on the order confirmation sheet and then find out what the specific item was on the website. In addition to figuring out what each item ordered looked like, I had to take note of the quantity ordered. This was my main assignment for the day. I went through each order form and ensured i knew exactly what orders we were receiving , what sizes, what colors, and how many.

Week 6 Day 2 9/9/2015
Today, I was assigned the responsibility to get supplies for he weight room. On a normal basis , we will have a mixture of athletes and students visit the fitness center. While the fitness center caters specifically to our dragon athletes, it is also a space which regular students can use as well. With the athletes, most teams are using a lifting and conditioning program set up by a their coach. Often times these sheets are sheets to be printed and filled out by every athlete. In the midst of lifting , athletes attempt to fill out these lifting sheets. This requires lots and lots of pens. So it is to no surprise when we run out of pens before the day is over. The good thing about this is that no one is coming out of their pockets to pay the price. Although many athletes claim they will return the pens, most times that is wishful thinking. The Hanson center is apart of the Tiffin University Athletic department, therefor anything we may need comes from the athletic departments budget. I went to the bookstore to "purchase" about 40 pens, highlighters, pencils and other supplies we frequently run out of. Hopefully we are able to keep these for more than just one week.

Week 6 Day 1 9/8/2015
Today I assisted in the mail processes. Tiffin University is ever expanding. Therefore, the campus must meet the needs of the students through its facilities. As our university continues to grow, our facilities must continue to improve. The Hanson center is improving its facility by ordering new equipment. We have ordered brand new lifting equipment to aid our athletes in their lifting experience. A lot of our equipment is old and worn out. However with more students (and essentially more money) pouring into the school, we are able to improve our facility. Today i was scheduled to pick up a package for the Hanson Center in the mail room. Upon receiving the package, i delivered it to my sup;supervisor and proceeded to let him handle it from there.

Week 5 Day 3
Working in the Hanson center has become pretty routine. One of the things that could use work is the Student workers communication with staff about days they will miss. As an intern, it is my job to handle schedule changes and be sure that all scheduling is done properly. However i cannot control the urgency with which the workers decide to give notice about days they will miss. I have found that the key to solving this problem is organization and continuous repetition. I have had to keep sending emails or reminding workers of their duties and to be punctual.

Week 3 Day 3
My favorite part about the internship is helping other people. I absolutely love being able to use knowledge on something I'm passionate about to help others. When someone looks to you for guidance and trusts your opinion on something, it feels good to be able to positively lead someone. Its important to be confident when leading somoene in a strength workout.

Week 3 Day 1
My least favorite thing about the internship would have to be the hours of sitting around. During hours where people are normally in class opr at work, the gym is very slow. Not very many people need help. In addition to not needing help, not very many things need done as the weight room is not that messy yet. Some people will drop in on lunch breaks or mid day gaps, but majority of the people come after the class/work hours.

Week 2 Day 4
The environment of being in the gym is unlike any other. In the gym, we aren't expected to look a certain way, act a certain way, or dress a certain way. In the gym all of societies pretenses and stereotypes are gone. We become who we are aspiring to be. Everyday I have seen different types of people come in to the fitness center. When i say different types i do not mean one solid difference. When I mention the different types of people, i am referencing different genders, ethnicites, races, heights, weights, muscle mass, athletic ability, and even different mentalities. There are so many different kinds of people with the same goal in mind, to get fit and healthy. While some visit the gym to merely get in shape, some visit to maintain the bodies, some want to build on their bodies, while others just want to what is necessary for sport performance. Although every person who walks into the Hanson fitness center may have a different background or need, it is all met by the Fitness Centers accommodations.

Week 2 Day 3
Today I continued my work on the set of rules and worker schedule. This was more of a tedious task because a lot of the students had conflicting schedules. I had to call around and ask each student about their schedules and sport practice schedules. Trying to accommodate each student is a little difficult when every sport seems to practice around the same time each day. I was able to finish the schedule in time to begin my next task. The next task Ros assigned to me was making the schedule for the teams sports. Team sports require time in the Hanson in order to lift weights in preparation for their season. Each team needs to have a set time to be in the weight room. This means that they have right to the facility at that time. No other team is allowed to enter the weight room while a team is scheduled for a set time. Teams may often times be scheduled for the same times. This means that team have to share the facility with other teams trying to lift weights as well. The coaches need to be sent this information in order to be able to see their set time.

Week 2 Day 2
Today i got the chance to begin my role as a head intern. Today was the deadline for the workers for fall semester had to apply by. There were flyers posted in the weight room as well as advertisement by word of mouth. Coincidentally, I was a worker here at the Hanson center 2 years ago as a sophomore. Working at the weight room was an easier job back in sophomore year. We did not have as many expansions and were able to work on a very flexible schedule. It was a really cool on campus job to have. So i am no stranger to the responsibilities associated with maintaining the facility. Maintaining the facility is a crucial part in ensuring every athlete gets a great lifting experience. Today I assigned shifts to all of the prospect workers. I made a schedule along with a set of rules to which they are supposed to comply. I loved being in a position to manage workers.

Week 2 Day 1
After the successful first week, i got the chance to really begin to understand my role and position here as an intern. I got the chance to talk to Ros more about they role ill be playing once school starts back up as well. We began discussing how when school starts it would be a lot different. For now, my role as an intern was to keep the Hanson center clean and organized. I was to keep up with the equipment and the flow of people in and out of the facility. However when school starts, I will begin to take more of a managerial position. Ros had decided to make me head intern. This means that i would supervise the actual workers. In addition to supervising workers, I am to make sure that for every shift the cleaning is getting done by everyone who works. This was a thrill to me because i love to be in a position of power. I am not a power hungry person but i do like to be able to be a leader. I was extremely excited.

Week 1 Day 5
During my shift at the weight room today, I got the chance to work with the football team. Tiffin Universities Football team was scheduled for a lifting workout as apart of their football camp. The team came in 3 separate groups. The groups were separated by teams. I'm not really 100 percent sure how the teams work. I beleive it was first, second, and third team groups. It was pretty cool to see all the guys in there getting worked up to lift. I have never had that close of an encounter with a football team in their lifting environment. if you have never seen an entire football team lift weights, it is def a sight to see. Even though i was merely there to help with providing equipment, i loved the experience. This def had to be one of my favorite experiences. The guys treat each other like q family, encouraging one another through each rep, pushing each other through each set. The team was not just a team but a unit. They moved as one and orked as one. while they were here the managed to engulf the entirety of the Hanson center. This is largely because of their large numbers. My hjob was to baiscally keep good music playing and help keep he equipment prepared and put up properly. However the experience was pretty cool. They changed the entire mood of the hansonc center. As they lifted the gym was filled with testosterone, confidence, and work ethic. they not only changed the environment, but the smell as well. It was horrible! However it is a fitness center, which is not always required to smell like peaches and roses 24/7.

Week 1 Day 4
The Hanson center started to speed back up today. My main task for today was to re-rack all of the dumbbells on the dumbbell rack. Of course i waited to do so until there were not very many people in the gym. This task if pretty difficult and annoying to do when it is rather crowded. When we are busy or crowded, the weights get thrown around and taken back and forth. Imagine trying to organize a set of colored pencils while children are taking and using them wand putting them back in the wrong order. It can be A NIGHTMARE. However , because I waited this was not an issue for me thankfully. Rearranging the dumbbells is still not a very easy task. when organizing the 5lb-50lb weights, everything was fine. It was when i got past about 60lbs is when things started to get difficult. I am a pretty strong girl. I'm 5'7 and weigh about 150. I am actually a pretty solid 150 as i run track and lift religiously. Trying to lift 100 pound Dumbbells and pl;ace the back on a 2 foot rack is not as simple as it sounds. As I struggled to put the weights back in the correct places in ascending order, i eventually called on some very nice male dragon athletes to help me with the process. This does not mean I totally neglected my responsibility, I did what I could physically do without hurting myself. However , the help of those male athletes was immensely appreciated.

Week 1 Day 3
Today was a rather slow day at the Hanson center. For reasons I have yet to find out, more people seem to want to lift weight and workout on Mondays and Tuesday rather than Wednesdays. I would personally think that a mid-week workout is perfect for finishing out the long work week. I started my shift by re-racking all weights and wiping down all platforms. This is a good way to make sure that everything is clean and ready for the athletes to use. It also helps eliminate the chances of staff infection with in the gym. Staph is a pretty common sports disease that can be transmitted easily through the weight room. Everyday, different people touch weights with sweat and germs on their hands. This in particular is why we have stationed hand sanitizers throughout the gym. Although many may not make use of them, it gives people the option to be safe and hygienic. In a pace where everyone intends to sweat and spit and move around, it is imperative to keep it as clean as possible. After i completed the cleansing of the main room, cardio room, and bathrooms i began to re-rack weights.

Week 1 Day 2
Today started day 2 of my internship. today I got the chance to understand the rules and regulations associated with the weight room setting. The rules And regulations were all assumedly common knowledge, however there are still some athletes who need to be reminded of the rules and regulations. Some of the important rules of the Hanson center include ensuring all athletes are provided with a SAFE environment to lift and workout. As an intern, it is my personal duty to see to it that every dragon has a great lifting experience. This includes wiping down all equipment, wiping mirrors and re-racking weights. My task of the day was to take inventory. This meant that I had to account for every piece of equipment in the facility. This task would not be easy due to the constant low of athletes going in and out of the weight room. I had to wait until there were about 2 people lifting until I could quickly count the materials. I had to physically count things like handles, balance balls, Olympic lifting weights, Dumbells, and clamps. This is so that we an account for all the equipment we have before the year really gets going. Inventory helps to ensure everything is back in place for start of school.

Week 1 Day 1
Today I started my internship at the Tiffin university Hanson Fitness center on August 3rd 2015. The Hanson Center is one of TU'S new amenities. The TU Hanson Center is home to the dragons strength training equipment. In addition to housing our dragon strong lifting area, the fitness center is also home to the exercise science department. The main Room is filled with Olympic lifting platforms, as well as dumbbell and assisted lifting machinery. The Hanson also includes a cardio room which include treadmills, stair-climbers, and seated bikes, and other small machines for cardio workouts. The Exercise science department is burrowed in a small hallways of classrooms in the Hanson center. The hallway has 3 classrooms. 2 of the classrooms are for the Exercise science classes, while the other if for their exercise science equipment. The Hanson Center is also home to the athletic trainers for all sports. On the opposite end, having its own entrance, the athletic training room is located on the far right. This area consist of athletic trainers and their equipment to help athletes recover the best way they can. The Hanson Centr is a great place to become dragon strong. I am eager to start the internship.
